Latrobe’s Axeman’s Hall of Fame and Timberworks, celebrates the timber industry heritage, while on the land, farms harvest the bounty of rich soils. This is a land of milk and honey and of sweet berries and fresh vegetables, grass-fed beef and superb farm cheeses.

Longford, 20km south of Launceston, was established in 1813 at the confluence of the Macquarie and the South Esk rivers and is truly a lovely old town. Christ Church has beautiful windows and a clock, and there are many convict-built houses and cottages in the town.
Two early free-settler estates, Woolmers (1816) and Brickendon (1824), are nearby and there are also antique galleries and art and craft shops, including one that specialises in dolls’ houses and miniatures.
